Ah yes the wonderful gatekeeping that is at the heart of almost all the “successful”/“seasoned” ultra runners I’ve come across — from fellow racers, RDs, aid station captains (“you have swamp foot already??!!” — incredulously, I was asked after 10 miles in rain/mud at Canyons 100 miler — and offered no help as I tried to dry/bandage my foot), the list goes on. “You should have been here last year.” “This heat is nothing compared to…x y Z?” The main reason this one person banned you: keeping a tight lid on all the info in which they alone will allow parceled out. And jealousy of course. Perhaps you should start your own subreddit??🤔
Never came across your work on Reddit, but will subscribe and read here instead. Seems like moderators believe their purpose is to be the community, rather than support it.
Kyle, I think this news caught a lot of people off guard. Your time and thoughtful dialogue with the Reddit ultra community have definitely been more than appreciated. Very few experienced coaches are willing to invest their time as you have; most hide their best insight behind a paywall as you noted. When the village idiots take over, building your own space here on Substack is definitely the right call. Appreciate everything you’ve brought to the table, and look forward to more of your insights!
Like many, I am baffled by this, and it is truly a loss for the subs and community that utilize them. Failure follows when ego leads. If nothing else, hopefully this drives more foot traffic to your Substack where people can find an even deeper wealth of info.
Appreciate this my friend! I had been in a writing lull as of late so this sparked the fire. Lots of good stuff coming here, thank you for your words 🤜🤛

Exactly
Weird and such a bummer! I found you over there too. It makes no sense. I just saw they’re going to bat for you on there- https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrarunning/comments/1vj9t6g/a_friend_to_this_sub_kyle_long_known_here_as
Always a fan of a little uprising 🤘
For real!!

Oh for sure. Some people just suck and not much else to it!
That’s really disappointing to hear. I first heard of you on those subreddits and have found tons of helpful insights in your posts and comments.
Appreciate that! I’ll be offering the same (and more) insights into training and racing here 🤘
Onward always.
A lack of critical thinking seems to be crushing much of the internet.
Truth and quality always rise to the top.
Keep going dude.
Likewise my friend! 🤜🤛
"Sad exhale of realization of how little critical thinking exists in the world" <- All of this, unfortunately.

I was always so taken aback by your intense marketing Kyle, you just hit us over the head with it all the time (read sarcastically)!
Seriously though, thanks so much for all your wisdom-sharing and don't let the man get you down.
😂😂😂 never my friend, more to come, just here 💅
