Training for a 200 miler
Divide 200: Week 11: Phase 1
Prescribed mileage: 90/Completed miles: 50.02
Prescribed vert: None/Completed vert: 3,614
We learned this week that moving into a new house on the same week as a family holiday is NOT ideal for training, but that is life!
I knew this week would be a little iffy, we had a massive move day on Tuesday and Wednesday getting into our new house and so training was always going to be a little secondary this week. On top of that, Mother Nature hit us with what appears to be the final snow blast AND we headed to the in-laws on Friday for Easter, so I was pretty confident I’d fall short of my mileage objectives for the week and that was just fine.
Thankfully the busy week came at a good time. With winter lingering so late, I could feel the longer miles starting to take a toll mentally as I was far less excited to get out day after day running the same few loops. I took a breath out, decided I’m not going to be a slave to numbers this far out from race day and focused on the busy week. The new house literally backs up to the alpine, and I decided to give myself some flex on the next month or two to make sure I still enjoy the process and will spend the next few weeks getting up high again, starting to get my climbing legs fit and take a mental break from the long grind of endless miles. I’m excited and as I write this, feeling refreshed and ready to go hurt uphill again and breath some thin air.
Happy Easter ya’ll.
Onward, Always
