Training for a 200 miler
Divide 200: Week 9: Phase 1. Down week
Planned mileage: 70/Completed miles 70.07
Planned vert: 6k/Completed vert 4,281
Nothing sexy this week! Down week came during a nice wet week, so I was appreciative to spend less time out in the rain/snow. The mileage felt super manageable and I spent most of my time stuck on roads around home as the alpine got a fresh dump of snow.
Lot’s of excitement ahead though as spring weather approaches, we’re moving into a new house in the heart of Canmore with endless mileage right out the front door and beefier weeks on their way. With the down mileage week, I was able to spend a little more time in the gym, got back on the wall bouldering today and generally feel pretty refreshed and ready to work this upcoming week.
Now that things start approaching 85-100 mile weeks and with much more vert coming, things should get a little spicier, a little more revealing and a little more brutal, and it can’t come soon enough.
The big weeks ahead will be good first testing opportunities for some gear, nutrition and eventually some sleep strategies, which I’ll need to really work on developing for Divide as it’s the first race I’ll need a formal sleep plan for.
Do hard things, they’ll make you better.
Onward, Always.
