Training for a 200 miler
Divide 200 build: Week 1 of the crash course complete
Week 1 of my crash course to 200 miles is in the books, and things went…easier than anticipated if I’m being honest.
With a 45 day window to crank up the work toward 200, I had to both jump mileage pretty quick this week while also fighting the urge to dive into too much mileage and ending up hurt. I settled on a 75 mile week with a few good days in the mountains as a short adaptation week before a few much larger ones ahead.
One thing I really recognized about myself this week is the value of new terrain being a weapon to fight off some of the chronic fatigue I’ve been dealing with lately. I made a conscious effort to get my feet on trails and mountains they have never touched this week and it made the days so much more enjoyable. It’s something I’ll keep in mind over the next month and fight the urge to try and grind away on familiar trails because, reality is, I live in essentially unlimited alpine terrain, so I am gonna explore it.
The next few weeks will be the crucial test runs. I’m hoping to touch close to 100 miles this coming week and beyond that the next, essentially with as much gain along the way as I can. If all goes well, that’ll put me in a position for one last jumbo effort or two and instill enough confidence to show up at the start line in August.
Thankful to have gotten to share two wonderful days in the alpine this weekend with my wife and our friends who are visiting from the States.
Chase big shit. The worst that happens is that you fall short, a better version of the person who started.
